The Challenge
Menara TH Selborn required urgent modifications to their Surau (prayer room) to ensure the space was ready before Ramadhan. The work includes the installation of a new drain for the Wudhu (ablution) area. Since coring in an occupied commercial building with people working their 9 to 5, there’s a high risk, so it is crucial to ensure no reinforcement bars, utilities, or post-tensioned cables would be affected during the process.
Our Approach & Result
Sonicon deployed Xradar™ Concrete Scanning to map out the subsurface conditions before coring. This non-destructive method allowed the team to locate reinforcements, utilities, and post tension cables accurately, ensuring that coring could be carried out safely and efficiently. Once the scanning was complete, the team proceeded with concrete coring, carefully drilling out the designated areas for the new drain installation. The project was completed without damaging the surrounding structure and within the tight timeframe required.
With Ramadhan approaching, Menara TH Selborn was preparing its new Surau (prayer room), but there was one issue—they needed a proper drain for the Wudhu (ablution) area. The job needed to be done quickly and without disrupting the building’s structure.
Sonicon was brought in to scan and core four locations for the new drainage system. Before starting, Xradar™ Concrete Scanning was used to map out what was inside the concrete—checking for rebar, cables, and pipes to avoid damaging anything critical. Once we had a clear picture, we moved on to precision coring, carefully cutting the drainage paths while keeping the surrounding structure intact.
At Sonicon, we make sure every job is done safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption. Whether it’s scanning, coring, or any other concrete solution, we’re ready to get it done—fast and right.
