Reinforce and strengthen your building’s foundation before refurbishments
Underpinning
Underpinning is a structural solution used to increase the depth or load capacity of an existing foundation by extending them deeper or increasing their footprint, to reach stronger support This method is especially useful when a foundation has weakened over time, when the building’s load is increasing, or when new construction nearby has changed soil conditions. Unlike Push Piers which add separate support elements, Underpinning integrates directly with the existing foundation by enlarging and fortifying the foundation itself.
Our process begins with a thorough structural assessment to determine the cause of instability. We then plan out the most effective way to execute the works with precision, ensuring the foundation can safely handle present and future loads without compromising the building’s usability during the process.
Underpinning often involves sequentially excavating small sections beneath the existing footing and casting new concrete to deepen or widen the foundation. Each segment is completed and allowed to cure before moving to the next, ensuring the building is always supported. In some cases, we may use methods like jet grouting or micro-piles in combination, depending on site constraints. The end result is a foundation that can safely handle current and future loads, all achieved while the building remains largely in service.
Underpinning
Underpinning is a structural solution used to increase the depth or load capacity of an existing foundation by extending it down to stronger, more stable soil layers. It is particularly effective when the original foundation has weakened over time, when building loads have increased, or when nearby construction has altered soil conditions.
Unlike push piers, which stabilise foundations by transferring loads to deep, stable strata via steel piles, underpinning works by enlarging and reinforcing the existing foundation itself. This method integrates directly with the original structure, creating a stronger and more stable base while maintaining the current position of the building.
Our process begins with a thorough structural assessment to determine the cause of instability and plan out the most effective way to execute the works with precision, ensuring the foundation can safely handle present and future loads without compromising the building’s usability during the process.
Applications
Applications
01 | Structure Strengthening & Stabilisation
Ideal for structures affected by soil movement, changes in load requirements, or damage caused by environmental conditions. By extending the foundation to deeper, stronger strata or broadening its base, we effectively restore the strength to the foundation, prevent further settlement, and extends the lifespan of the building all while maintaining structural safety and performance.
