The Challenge
One of the Mall at Damansara required select structures demolished to make way for a mall refurbishment, including a planter box and an existing stair structure due for replacement with new escalators. The works had to be completed quickly, and the mall remained open to the public and tenants throughout, ruling out any method that would force a closure or create prolonged disruption to trading.
Our Approach & Result
We used robotic demolition to hack out the planter box, a 3m by 200mm thick reinforced section, removed with controlled, low-impact demolition suited to an occupied retail environment rather than conventional breaking. For the stair structure, wall saw cutting opened the new escalator installation between the basement and ground floor, sized to fit two escalators on each side. A separate wall saw cut, 17.1 metres long through 260mm thick concrete, created the opening for new road access works, with the precision the location demanded given its proximity to the operating mall and public road.
The mall stayed open throughout the entire works, with zero downtime to trading or public access. The escalator opening was cut to the precise dimensions needed for two escalators on each side, with no rework required, and the road opening was completed to the same standard of accuracy. The refurbishment proceeded on the back of clean, code-compliant demolition and cutting work, delivered without disrupting the asset’s day-to-day operation.
