The Challenge
Sunway Velocity Mall wanted to add an escalator that links from the basement parking to the lower ground of the mall, making it more accessible for their visitors. During this upgrading work, the mall is still live with individuals and families browsing the shops. Such wise, the service opening needs to be proceeded with safety and assurance prioritized for the all the visitors and the structure’s integrity.
Our Approach & Result
Before cutting open the concrete slab, we assessed 15 m2 area with Xradar™ enhanced concrete scanning technology, mapping out the critical reinforcements within the slab that is the essential support of the building. Within less than an hour, the work was completed without any disruption to the visitors and the building’s integrity, giving the client a clear vision before proceeding with the escalator opening.
It is easy to find malls all around Malaysia as it is complete for shopping, dining, entertainment, and even community events, making them a convenient one-stop destination. However, with the many choices, accessibility is one of the key factors that leads to visitors’ preferred destination.
Sunway Velocity Mall, located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, wants to provide more accessibility for their visitors. An additional escalator is currently in the pipeline to connect the basement parking lot directly to the lower ground of the mall.
Nevertheless, they wanted to ensure that none of the visitors and the operation of the shops are disrupted during this upgrading work. Consequently, we were called in to map out the crucial reinforcement within the concrete slab.
We scanned the 15 m2 area with Xradar™ enhanced concrete scanning technology, and mapped out the post tension cable for the client to proceed with the escalator opening. The clear view gave the client confidence and safety assurance to move forward with the installation of the new escalator.
