The Challenge
A client, located at Oval KL, required multiple wall openings as part of a structural modification and upgrade project. In total, 5 openings were needed, however the client also needed structural scanning to locate embedded reinforcement, confirm concrete cover, and estimate rebar diameter to ensure the openings could be executed safely without compromising the building’s integrity.
Our Approach & Result
Our team began by conducting Xradar™ enhanced concrete scanning over designated areas of 600mm × 600mm, with a scanning depth of 300mm. The scans provided detailed information on reinforcement positioning, spacing, cover, and estimated diameters to guide the execution of each wall opening.
With the information verified, we proceeded with precise diamond wall sawing to cut all 5 openings, each reaching a height of 3m and varying widths from 1.7m to 8m, safely and efficiently.
Structural modification work in existing buildings requires accuracy at every stage, particularly when new openings are introduced into load-bearing elements.
Our team was called in to perform wall opening and concrete scanning works as part of an ongoing upgrade project at Oval KL. The scope involved 5 large openings, each standing at 3m high and ranging between 1.7m and 8m wide.
Before the cutting works, we conducted a 600mm × 600mm scan with 300mm depth using Xradar™ enhanced concrete scanning technology. This allowed us to precisely locate reinforcement bars, measure concrete cover, and estimate rebar diameters. The data provided a clear picture of the structure’s internal layout, ensuring that the cutting could be done safely and with full confidence.
With the insights gathered, we carried out diamond concrete wall cutting, completing all openings cleanly, safely, and within the expected timeline. This project highlights how structural assessment and precision cutting go hand in hand to deliver efficient results without compromising safety or quality.
