The Challenge
Following the thorough structural assessment and crack mapping at the subsea engineering factory, Sonicon proceeded to implement tailored solutions to repair and prepare the factory floor. Upon investigation, the cracks were attributed to the early design of the slab, necessitating repairs and surface preparation to prevent further damage or concrete blistering.
Our Approach & Result
Sonicon conducted expert crack repairs to restore the structural integrity of the slab. To ensure optimal results, moisture content was carefully measured to determine the most suitable materials to utilize for blister prevention. The existing surface was then removed and prepared using SGi’s advanced shot blast method to achieve CSP3-CSP4 profile. This method was selected over This results to a smooth epoxy finish, free from blistering, providing both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The client was highly satisfied with the outcome, praising the quality and precision of Sonicon’s work.

Following a thorough structural assessment and crack mapping in the first phase, Sonicon moved forward with tailored solutions to address the identified cracks and prepare the concrete floor for the factory’s increased production demands.
The challenge was multifaceted—repairing cracks caused by the slab’s early design flaws while ensuring the floor could withstand future operational loads. Additionally, the surface preparation had to address concerns like concrete blistering, ensuring a durable and functional floor for years to come.
Sonicon began by expertly repairing the cracks to restore the slab’s structural integrity. To ensure optimal results, moisture content was carefully measured to identify the most suitable materials for preventing blistering. The existing floor coating was then meticulously removed, and the surface was prepared using SGi’s advanced shot blasting method. This method, selected over the more commonly used grinding, ensured 100% surface coverage, even on undulating floors, and achieved a CSP3-CSP4 profile—ideal for the factory’s operational requirements and future usage.
The final result was a smooth, durable epoxy finish, free from blistering, offering both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The factory management was highly impressed, commending Sonicon’s precision and dedication to quality.
