The Challenge

A restaurant at Pavilion Bukit Jalil was preparing for expansion, requiring new piping systems to be installed within the premises. However, the restaurant is still running their normal operations and features finished flooring, so the client wanted to avoid any risk of disrupting their customers or damaging the concrete slab during coring.

Our Approach & Result

One of our experienced engineers carried out a non-destructive concrete scan using Xradar™’s enhanced subsurface imaging technology. The scan was performed to accurately map embedded items such as rebar, conduits, and post-tension cables along the core locations intended for piping installation. With this technology, we were able to complete the job efficiently with only one engineer on-site within the site and in less than an hour without disturbing the surrounding restaurant layout or operations.

Installing new piping systems are an essential when it comes to expansions, especially at a Chinese cuisine restaurant. Located at Pavillion Bukit Jalil, the restaurant would need to core through the finished flooring to install the pipes. However, the client needed to avoid any risk of damaging the slab or disturbing diners as the restaurant is operating as their usual opening hours.

To support the expansion without disruption, Sonicon was engaged to conduct a high-precision concrete scan. Using Xradar™’s technology, our engineer mapped out embedded items like rebar, conduits, and post-tension cables, providing a clear guide for the client to proceed with installation with confidence.

The entire scan was completed in less than an hour with just one engineer on-site, allowing the client to move forward with their installation smoothly, safely, and without any downtime.
