The Challenge

Perodua’s Rawang facility, built in 2001, was undergoing refurbishment to accommodate operational upgrades within its manufacturing space. They needed confirmation of the structural condition and embedded conduits within the existing concrete slab as they would like to install a new extension rail for a forklift system. However, the client did not have any updated drawings, and the slab located in an active production area that should not be interrupted. Assessment

Our Approach & Result

We conducted a Structural Assessment with our non-destructive enhanced concrete scanning technology. Utilizing Xradar™’s NDT scanning, a high-resolution imaging of the embedded items’ positions and subsurface conditions was retrieved from the 300mm concrete slab. We used a rolling cart system to perform a complete surface scan of the 25m² slab area efficiently and accurately while the surrounding workspace remained fully operational within less than 2 hours.

Perodua’s factory in Rawang was built over two decades ago. Now, with evolving operational needs, the team planned to install a forklift extension rail within one of the production areas. But before drilling or loading the new structure, they needed to verify the location of the embedded utility cables and conduits.

With limited documentation and live operations ongoing, they engaged us to scan a 25m² area non-destructively. Our team arrived prepared with a 400MHz setup based on the client’s expected 600mm slab thickness. But once on site, scanning revealed a 300mm slab, we could switch to our 2 GHz scanner which provide a clearer, high-resolution view of the slab’s interior.

Using our cart-mounted system, we completed the full scan in under 2 hours without interrupting factory operations. The data confirmed would allow the client to proceed with confidence in placing the new forklift rail.
