The Challenge

Plaza 33 is a high-traffic commercial building with multiple office tenants and constant vehicle and pedestrian movement. The client needed to remove old paint from the concrete surface around the front office drive-through area, which is a highly exposed zone used for parking access and passenger drop-offs. Work had to be done without disrupting ongoing operations or endangering people and vehicles nearby.

Our Approach & Result

We chose to shot blast the concrete floor as it is the only method that addresses both high spots and valley, covering 100% area. to strip off the existing paint layer efficiently. Due to the public nature of the space, we installed protective panels to contain the steel shots and prevent it from scattering far and hitting nearby cars or pedestrians. The total work area was >2,000 m², completed over two passes as some parts where existing coatings are thicker requires more passes to fully remove the old coating.

Sonicon was engaged to remove old paint coatings from the main vehicle and pedestrian drop-off area at Plaza 33. This space is directly exposed to ongoing commercial activity and public traffic, requiring a safe, efficient, and non-disruptive removal method.

We selected SGi Tech’s shot blasting for its speed and precision. It is also the only method that would cover the whole area by addressing both the high spots and valleys to remove the old coating without any missed spots.

To ensure public safety, we installed shielding panels to control the dispersion of the steel shots and avoid contact with vehicles or bystanders at the lobby next to it.

We cleared >2,000 m² of concrete floor surface with two rounds of blasting to ensure a clean and even finish ready for recoating. This was all done without disrupting the operations of the office building and the employees there.
