The Challenge

A 20+ year-old commercial shop lot in Jalan Raja Laut was undergoing a full refurbishment to be repurposed into an Airbnb unit. As part of the upgrade, the client required a vertical lift system spanning from Ground Floor to Level 4. This involved structural slab removal across 5 floors to accommodate a 1.6m × 1.45m elevator shaft. Given the age of the building and the absence of reliable as-built drawings, there were concerns about column alignment and the added weight of new installations, including a rooftop water tank.

Our Approach & Result

We first conducted a structural assessment using Xradar™ to accurately locate internal columns and verify safe zones for cutting across level 1 to level 4. With this data, we used Diamond Wall Saws to create clean, vibration-free slab openings across all 5 levels. To ensure structural integrity, we then carried out beam strengthening around the shaft from Level 1 to Level 4.

On the rooftop, additional strengthening was done to support a new water tank, including the installation of new columns and a dedicated footing system running down to the ground floor.

In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, a 2 decade-old commercial lot was being renovated into a multi-storey Airbnb.

Before any reconstruction, the client engaged us to carry out concrete scanning using Xradar™. We mapped the internal layout, locating the positions of key columns from Level 1 To Level 4. This ensured that the proposed elevator shaft, measuring 1.6m × 1.45m, could be installed safely without affecting the surrounding structure.

With the scanned data in hand, our team used Diamond Wall Saws to cut precise openings through the reinforced slabs from Ground Floor up to Level 4. The method produced minimal vibration and dust, making it ideal for a live site with multiple trades working in tandem.

Once the openings were completed, our scope moved to structural strengthening. We reinforced the slab areas surrounding the lift shaft from Level 1 to Level 4 to safely accommodate the new load. The client also planned to install a water tank at the rooftop level so we proceed with installing new columns and cast a new footing system all the way to the Ground Floor to ensure full load transfer and long-term stability.

This project is a reflection of what integrated, precision-driven work looks like from scanning, cutting, to strengthening. From pre-assessment to structural delivery, we supported the client’s vision while ensuring safety, clarity, and structural performance.
