Sonicon took part in MBAM OneBuild, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 5 to 7 August. Organised by the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM), the event brings together contractors, consultants, developers, and suppliers to see new construction products, services, machinery, and methods in one place.

Sonicon is the only certified provider in Asia bringing Xradar™ scanning technology, sourced from Canada, and used it to run live demonstrations on the show floor. Xradar™ is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method for structural assessment. Rather than drilling or breaking concrete to see what is inside, the scanner sends radar pulses into the slab or wall and reads what bounces back. Rebar, post-tension cables, conduit, and voids each reflect the signal differently, and those differences build into a real-time image of what sits beneath the surface, without a single hole cut.

Malaysia’s Building Ageing Continuously

As refurbishment and retrofit work on Malaysia’s ageing building stock increases, methods that assess a structure before work begins, rather than after something goes wrong, are becoming standard practice rather than an extra step.

But with the right approach, these challenges can be addressed cleanly, safely, and with minimal disruption.

  • Start with fully non-destructive concrete scanning using Xradar™ to locate reinforcement, update as-built drawings, and assess voids, cracks, and corrosion.
  • Proceed with precision cutting or robotic demolition to remove only what is necessary, reducing unnecessary damage and waste.
  • Complete the process with structural strengthening, using solutions such as steel plates, CFRP, or push piers for foundation support.

Connecting Challenges with the Right Solutions

his platform was more than just an opportunity to showcase what we do. It was about demonstrating how each of our services addresses the real challenges and pain points faced by industry professionals. It’s not about flashy technology or industry buzzwords. It’s about delivering safer, faster, and more predictable project outcomes with fewer surprises.

We’re grateful to everyone who visited our booth, whether for an in-depth technical discussion or simply a quick introduction. The level of engagement reinforced our belief that the market is looking for practical solutions that make projects more predictable, efficient, and less challenging.
