The Challenge
City Walk, a retail, commercial, and activities hub in Kuala Lumpur, needed to remove 10 internal walls and 3 planter box structures as part of ongoing refurbishment works for a grocery store. The project had to be executed without disrupting mall operations or compromising safety, as the surrounding businesses remained fully operational throughout the demolition period.
Our Approach & Result
Bumblebee, our remote-controlled robotic demolition machine was in charge of demolishing 10 wall panels consisting of 120–150mm thick brickwork. The work was completed without needing to close off any other areas in the mall.
We were also tasked with cutting and removing 3 planter box structures that doubled as benches. These were built with 600mm thick concrete, requiring high cutting power and precision. Our team used handheld diamond saws to break them down into manageable sections before clearing them from site.
City Walk is a high-traffic environment with retail, attractions, theme parks and a commercial within its building. Locations like City Walk would prioritize speed, safety, and control; these are non-negotiable. Our team was engaged to demolish 10 wall panels and 3 planter boxes within the complex, while the mall remained open to the public.
We deployed Bumblebee, our robotic demolition, to remove the 120–150mm thick wall panels. Its remote-controlled operation ensured a safe distance between operators and the work zone while maintaining high productivity and safety. Despite being in a live environment, no surrounding stores or footpaths needed to be closed off, and the work progressed without interruption.
We also tackled 3 planter boxes integrated into bench seating. Built from 600mm thick concrete, they posed a greater cutting challenge. Using handheld diamond saws, our team dismantled the structures safely and efficiently.
With the entire job completed cleanly and without disruption, this project demonstrates how advanced demolition methods make even complex site conditions manageable.
