The Challenge
Metrojaya in Mid Valley Megamall required the removal of tiles and mosaics from an extensive 16,000 m² area within a strict four-month timeline. Traditional hacking methods were deemed inefficient as they would take significantly longer to complete than the deadline. With the monthly rental cost per square feet at RM 15, any delays could have led to substantial financial losses for the Megamall. Throughout the project, maintaining the structural integrity of the floor was a critical priority to prepare the space for the next phase of renovations.
Our Approach & Result
To tackle the challenge, Sonicon brought in SGi Tech’s Parana Milling technology for efficient and precise surface preparation. This advanced method allowed us to safely remove tiles and mosaics without damaging the floor underneath. We completed the project a full month ahead of schedule, saving the mall around RM 3.6 million in potential rental losses, enabling the stores to reopen and resume operations sooner. After completing the job, the floor was left with a smooth, flat surface that was ready for the next steps.

Metrojaya in Mid Valley Megamall needed a quick, efficient solution to remove tiles and mosaics across a massive 16,000 m² area. Traditional hacking would take up four days to finish up 100m² and that would be impossible with the tight timeline of only four months that the Megamall had in hand.
Sonicon stepped in with SGi Tech’s Parana Milling, completing the project one month ahead of schedule in just three months. This advanced method safely removed tiles and mosaics while retaining the existing screed, providing a solid foundation for subsequent tile and mosaic installation. By preserving the screed, the process significantly reduced the cost of screeding materials and debris disposal. The early completion not only saved time but also prevented substantial financial losses for the client. This early completion saved the Megamall’s time and substantial financial losses.
The process was carried out entirely at night to minimize disruption in one of Malaysia’s busiest malls. The advanced milling technology left the floor structurally sound and perfectly leveled, ensuring a clean slate for renovations while assuring the structural integrity of the surface.
